From “furados” dug by hand to modern highways<\/h2>\n

The story of Madeira’s tunnels begins long before the motorway era. The first passages, called “furados”<\/strong>, foram escavados manualmente na rocha vulc\u00e2nica \u2014 buracos estreitos e escuros que permitiam que agricultores e pescadores se deslocassem entre vales que, de outra forma, ficariam isolados uns dos outros.<\/p>\n
