Cristo Rei. From my house it´s a 20 minute walk, and from Funchal 20 minutes by car.

Cristo Rei is a viewpoint with a beautiful view over the bay of Funchal, a wonderful view of the Atlantic, as well as a view of the Garajau Marine Reserve and Caniço de Baixo … more than enough reasons to know this place.

This place owns his name to a statue of a Christ facing the ocean, built in 1927 in fulfillment of a promise of the Counselor Aires de Ornelas.

From here you can easily go to Garajau Beach, walking or by cable car (€ 2,50 round trip, Mon to Sun from 10h to 20). Be sure to go to the beach. This is a first natural marine reserve in Portugal, created in 1986.

A good tip is to come at the end of the day and to enjoy the sunset.

It has parking, WC and a coffee, which serves a very good poncha;)
